Berry Cherry Whiskey Fizz

Berry Cherry Whiskey Fizz

In the episode

Kevin opened the episode with the Nuka-Cherry syrup: a cup and a half of water, a cup of sugar and a cup of fresh pitted cherries, simmered for 20 minutes, then strained with a good squish to get all the cherry flavor out and chilled in an ice bath.

Each glass got Nuka-Cherry and last week's Nuka-Cola syrup, blackberries and blueberries muddled right in, three tablespoons of 94-proof whiskey, club soda and ice. That'll be 10 caps. Jeremiah showed up the second the drinks were ready, naturally.

Cheers all around: this one is delicious. By dinner one of us admitted to putting in triple the alcohol and needing more syrup to tame it. Aggressive, but delicious.

So, what do you do when you're stuck underground and scurvy is lurking around the corner? Throw in a punchline and wash it all down with some whiskey, of course!

The Dirty Wastelander is Fallout: New Vegas's cocktail of Nuka-Cola, whiskey and mutfruit. Mutfruit is in short supply, so we muddled blackberries and blueberries instead, then added our homemade Nuka-Cola and Nuka-Cherry syrups and a splash of soda.

Sweet, fizzy and dangerously easy to drink. Cheers to surviving and thriving with style!

Ingredients

Cocktail

  • 4 blackberries
  • 4 blueberries
  • 2 tbsp Nuka-Cola syrup, see our Homemade Spiced Cola
  • 3 tbsp Nuka-Cherry syrup, below
  • 3 tbsp whiskey, we used a 94-proof bourbon
  • ice
  • 1/2 cup club soda

Nuka-Cherry syrup

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup fresh cherries, pitted

Instructions

Nuka-Cherry syrup

  1. Put the water, sugar and cherries in a pan over medium-high heat and whisk until the sugar dissolves.

  2. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

  3. Strain into a bowl, pressing the cherries to squeeze out all the flavor.

  4. Set the bowl in an ice bath for about 15 minutes to cool. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 2 weeks.

Cocktail

  1. Pour the Nuka-Cherry and Nuka-Cola syrups into a glass and add the berries.

  2. Muddle the berries into the syrup.

  3. Add the whiskey and give it a quick stir.

  4. Top with club soda, leaving room for ice, then fill with ice.

Notes

Berries stand in for the game's mutfruit. The drink comes from Fallout: New Vegas.
