Gingerbread Spice Blend

In the episode

Next we celebrated everybody's favorite holiday, Winter Veil. We started with whole peppercorns in the mortar and pestle and ground them by hand. You could use a food processor, but "we like to struggle, just like our fellow World of Warcraft apprentice chefs."

Then came ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, all mixed carefully because "this is precious stuff." Then most of it got spilled on the way into the jar. That's fine. Our holiday spices were ready for Winter Veil.

As the chill of winter descends upon Azeroth, we celebrate the joyous festival of Winter Veil with a medley of holiday spices. Grinding peppercorns with precision and infusing warmth with ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, we craft a seasoning fit for the most festive feasts.

With each sprinkle of this enchanting blend, we usher in the spirit of the season, ready to delight palates and hearts alike.

Gingerbread Spice Blend

Holiday Spices

A warming Winter Veil seasoning of ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and freshly ground pepper, fit for the most festive feasts.

Prep
5 min
Makes
About 1/3 cup

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp whole black peppercorns
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tbsp ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Grind the peppercorns in a mortar and pestle (or a spice grinder) until fine.

  2. Add the ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves and mix until evenly blended.

  3. Carefully transfer to an airtight jar.

Notes

Grinding whole peppercorns fresh gives the best flavor; a food processor or spice grinder is much faster than a mortar. Pour carefully into the jar, as we spilled most of ours. Great in gingerbread cookies, pumpkin pie and hot apple cider.
