Their modestly sweet glaze and filling offer just the right balance, allowing you to savor an extra morsel to fuel your upcoming escapades, no magic required.

Ingredients:

Savory Deviate Delight:

Start by heating about an inch of oil in a small frying pan over medium heat, reaching approximately 300ยฐF. In a small mixing bowl, combine all the batter ingredients, whisking until you achieve a thick, smooth mixture. Pat the fish fillets dry, then dip them into the batter before gently lowering them into the hot oil. Allow the battered fish strips to cook for a minute or two on each side until they turn a lovely golden color, then transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. In another pan, add a dash of oil and roast the corn and red pepper for a few minutes until they start to brown. Then, add a splash of vinegar and stir for an additional 30 seconds before removing from heat. Season with salt and pepper. Assemble the tacos by spreading a dollop of tartar sauce down the center of a tortilla. Place a piece of fried fish on top, followed by the roasted corn mixture and cabbage. Serve promptly.

  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 3 tilapia fillets, cut in half
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 cups yellow corn
  • 1 /2 cup red bell pepper, diced
  • Splash white wine vinegar
  • 6 small flour tortillas
  • 1 /2 cup tartar sauce
  • About 1 cup red cabbage, finely shredded
  • BATTER

  • 1 1 /2 cups flour
  • 1 /4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 1 /2 cups buttermilk
  • Pinch each salt and cayenne pepper

Conjured Mana Buns:

In a large bowl, combine warm milk and sugar, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Add the yeast, followed by the butter and egg, stirring to combine. Gradually add salt and flour until you have a workable dough. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until it bounces back when poked, for under 5 minutes. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and allow it to rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about an hour. Prepare the filling by creaming the dry ingredients with the butter; set aside. Butter four muffin tins and set aside (or two tins, and work in stages). Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle, roughly 24″ x 12″. Spread the filling evenly over the surface, leaving only a small strip along one long edge uncovered. Starting from the opposite long edge, tightly roll the dough into a tube. Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into 1-inch pieces, then place one bun in each muffin space in the prepared tins. Cover and allow to rise again for about 20 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF and bake the buns for 15 to 20 minutes, until the tops are golden brown. While they are baking, make the glaze: Melt the brown sugar and butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, then stir in the flour until no dry lumps remain. Pour in the cream and stir until you have a smooth consistency. Remove from heat and add the butter and vanilla. Once the buns are done baking, remove them from the oven and transfer them from the pans to a cooling rack while still warm. Spoon the glaze over the top of each bun. Sprinkle with extra nuts, if desired, and enjoy.
