Cooking Cram, Pork N’ Beans and a couple of Dirty Wastelander’s

Welcome to the gastronomic adventure of VideoGame Eats, where we craft your favorite foods from your favorite video games! Join Jeremiah and Kevin as they concoct an array of mouthwatering dishes straight from the wasteland.

Welcome, Wasteland Wanderers!

We’ve stumbled upon more “pork ‘n’ beans” cans while wandering the wasteland than we ever thought possible. Seriously, if there were a Pork ‘n’ Beans Olympics, weโ€™d be gold medalists. Our stash is so massive itโ€™s bursting out of an old pre-war refrigerator. After weeks of eating straight from the can, our taste buds were staging a revolt.

So, what do you do when you’re stuck underground and scurvy is lurking around the corner? Throw in a punchline and wash it all down with some whiskey, of course!

We tried something similar at Salvatore’s Bar over in New Reno. They called it a Dirty Wastelander. At first, we werenโ€™t sure if it was an insult or a term of endearment. But after a few sips, we didnโ€™t care โ€“ it was delicious! This recipe is our take on that experience, perfect for shaking up the monotony and adding a little humor to our culinary adventures. Cheers to surviving and thriving with style!

Ingredients:

Baked Pork N’ Beans:

TO PREPARE THE BURGERS:
To prepare this flavorful dish, preheat the oven to 300ยฐF. Heat the canola oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat and cook the bacon slices until crispy. Remove and drain them on paper towels, then repeat with the remaining bacon. Drain at least half of the bacon grease from the pan and add the diced onions, cooking until softened for about 5 minutes.

Add the diced jalapeno and chopped garlic, cooking for an additional minute. Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, honey, apple cider vinegar, ground ginger, ground mustard, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined. Return the cooked bacon to the pot, stir, and bring the mixture to a simmer over low heat.

Finally, gently stir in the drained and rinsed lima beans, then transfer the Dutch oven to the oven and bake, uncovered, for 45 to 50 minutes until the mixture thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Enjoy the delicious flavors of your homemade baked beans!
