Vanilla Ice Cream Cones

In the episode

The Brotherhood of Steel couldn't stop Jeremiah this time, because he got his hands on an ice cream maker. He'd never had ice cream in all his time in the Wasteland, so he went for a four-ingredient vanilla. First he got the sugar to meld with the milk, leaving the heavy cream out so it wouldn't whip full of air and turn fluffy.

The machine's bowl came out of the Nuka-Cola fridge ice cold, the base went in, and the lid stayed on to keep the bloatflies out. Twenty minutes later we had real ice cream.

Scooped into waffle cones with a cherry and a little chocolate, it was a knockout: "the best thing we ever made." The crunch of the cone had us doing the ice cream dance.

Join Jeremiah and Kevin as they concoct an array of mouthwatering dishes straight from the wasteland. Whether you're fishing in the great unknown or experimenting in the vault kitchen, one thing's for sure: delicious discoveries await!

Vanilla Ice Cream Cones

Ice Cream Cone

Rich, creamy four-ingredient vanilla ice cream churned in an ice cream maker and scooped into waffle cones with a cherry on top for a sweet treat from the vault.

Ingredients

Vanilla ice cream

  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1 1/8 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 cups heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 tbsp pure vanilla extract

To serve

  • waffle cones
  • maraschino cherries, optional
  • chocolate, optional, for topping

Instructions

  1. Freeze the ice cream maker's bowl ahead of time, following the machine's instructions.

  2. Mix the milk and sugar until the sugar dissolves. Do this before adding the cream so the cream doesn't get whipped full of air.

  3. Stir in the heavy cream and vanilla.

  4. Turn the machine on and pour the mixture into the frozen bowl. Churn for about 20 minutes, until thick and creamy.

  5. For a firmer consistency, transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for about 2 hours.

  6. Scoop into waffle cones and top with a cherry and a little chocolate.

Notes

Mixing the sugar into the milk first, before the cream goes in, keeps the ice cream dense instead of fluffy.
